Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants represent the most advanced solution for replacing missing teeth. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root surgically placed into the jawbone to support one or more replacement teeth. The implant is typically made of titanium, a biocompatible material that causes no allergic reactions. Over time, bone tissue integrates with the implant, securing it firmly.

Unlike traditional bridges, dental implants do not require the trimming of adjacent teeth, offering a long-term, durable solution. For patients with complete tooth loss, implants provide a more comfortable fixed denture option compared to removable prosthetics. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Implant Abutment

The implant abutment is a vital component that connects the implant (the artificial root) to the crown (the visible, functional part of the tooth). It protrudes through the gum line, ensuring the stability and durability of the dental restoration. The abutment is crucial for achieving both aesthetic harmony and functional performance.

Key Features:

  1. Stability and Durability:
The abutment secures the crown or other prosthetics to the implant, resisting chewing forces effectively.
  2. Aesthetics:
Abutments, particularly those made of ceramic or zirconia, enhance the natural appearance of the prosthetic tooth by blending seamlessly with adjacent teeth.

Immediate-Load Implants

Immediate-load implants offer a faster and more convenient solution for patients looking for quick aesthetic and functional results. However, these implants are only suitable under specific conditions, including adequate bone quality and initial stability.

Features of Immediate-Load Implants:

These implants are loaded with a temporary crown or bridge immediately or within a few days after placement. This means that the patient gets a temporary dental replacement without having to wait months for the fusion of the implant with the bone. Conversely, traditional implants require 3-6 moths after the procedure before the final crown can be placed.

Temporary Implants

Temporary implants serve as interim solutions used before or during the permanent implantation process. Their function is to provide functional and aesthethic solutions until the necessary reconstruction surgeries are completed and the permanent implants stabilize.

In most cases, they are used in major dental rehabilitation processes where the load bearing of final implants is not recommended, or bone grafting is necessary which does not allow for the fitting of permanent implants. They are removed towards the end of the treatment.

These implants differ from their permanent counterparts, allowing them to be used in conditions of insufficient bone density. They are incapable of withstanding long-term use, but they are perfect for short-term use.
